I Can See, I Can Fight

OK I'm not sure if you guys have heard of this yet but there is a cool new Virtual Reality headset to come on the market. It is called the Oculus Rift and is unlike any I have ever seen. It has a Kickstarter here.

Why kickstarter?

"Oculus Rift is a new virtual reality (VR) headset designed specifically for video games that will change the way you think about gaming forever. With an incredibly wide field of view, high resolution display, and ultra-low latency head tracking, the Rift provides a truly immersive experience that allows you to step inside your favorite game and explore new worlds like never before.

We're here raising money on Kickstarter to build development kits of the Rift, so we can get them into the hands of developers faster. Kickstarter has proven to be an amazing platform for accelerating big and small ideas alike. We hope you share our excitement about virtual reality, the Rift, and the future of gaming. "

Why was it developed?

"The Rift takes 3D gaming to the next level. There are a number of VR headsets out there, but none that deliver a truly immersive gaming experience. Most products either lack the technical features required for believable immersion or sit at a very high price-point ($20,000+) reserved for the military or scientific community.
We set out to change all that with the Rift, which is designed to maximize immersion, comfort, and pure, uninhibited fun, at a price everyone can afford."
Do you have any developers backing and what do the have to say?
"What I've got now, is, I honestly think the best VR demo probably the world has ever seen"
John Carmack, id Software
"Needless to say, I'm a believer... We're extremely excited here at Epic Games to get the Unreal Engine integrated with Oculus"
Cliff Bleszinski, Design Director Epic Games
"I think this will be the coolest way to experience games in the future. Simply that... that big"
David Helgason, CEO Unity
"I’m really looking forward to getting a chance to program with it and see what we can do.”
Michael Abrash, Valve
"It looks incredibly exciting, if anybody’s going to tackle this set of hard problems, we think that Palmer’s going to do it. So we’d strongly encourage you to support this Kickstarter.”
Gabe Newell, President and Owner Valve
What do I get for $300?

Along with the headset itself and development tools,
"We're including a copy of DOOM 3 BFG Edition, the first Oculus-ready game, with every Rift dev kit on Kickstarter. John Carmack showed DOOM 3 BFG at E3, stunning the press and creating incredible anticipation for the release."

Available on Windows, Macintosh, Linux, IOS, Android, Unity, Integrated Unreal Engine.

Psx Converter Review

This is a Psx/Ps2 converter I bought off Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F6BGXY/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00  .

This has 2 controller ports with a red LED to show which controllers are plugged in. It has a nice clear blue plastic shell along with the same color USB cable. Overall my testing of it over the past few days has gone well. I have been using the Ps1 PiranhaPad by INTERACT( though it can use the Ps2 dualshock) and have had no problems. When  I opened it up it took a while for my computer to recognize and find drivers, though it did, also it came with a driver disk, which would not install. I read online the driver disk is for things like the steering wheel, although I do not have a wheel or driving game to test it with yet. This has worked very well on Emulators though. I have currently used it on epsxe 1.7.0 and ZSNES and both worked very well  with it, though turning on turbo gave me trouble. I  currently have been playing Warriors of  Might and Magic  and  Zombies Ate my Neighbors on it. Also I have heard people say it works with PS3.
Overall I find this a good product as long as you buy the Sony version(there are fakes). It works great with emulators and possibly PS3. So looking at all this I give it a 9/10.

This is considered one of the best PlayStation controller converters

And 2 Become 3

Today Peter Jackson Announced on his facebook that the Hobbit: An Unexpected Adventure(yes this is the name)   wil now be 3 movies. He said as follows:

"It is only at the end of a shoot that you finally get the chance to sit down and have a look at the film you have made. Recently Fran, Phil and I did just this when we watched for the first time an early cut of the first movie - and a large chunk of the second. We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life.  All of which gave rise to a simple question: do we take this chance to tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as the filmmakers, and as fans, was an unreserved ‘yes.'

We know how much of the story of Bilbo Baggins, the Wizard Gandalf, the Dwarves of Erebor, the rise of the Necromancer, and the Battle of Dol Guldur will remain untold if we do not take this chance.  The richness of the story of The Hobbit, as well as some of the related material in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, allows us to tell the full story of the adventures of Bilbo Baggins and the part he played in the sometimes dangerous, but at all times exciting, history of Middle-earth.

So, without further ado and on behalf of New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Wingnut Films, and the entire cast and crew of “The Hobbit” films, I’d like to announce that two films will become three.

It has been an unexpected journey indeed, and in the words of Professor Tolkien himself, "a tale that grew in the telling."

Cheers,

Peter J"

Yep another year till we will see the full story unfold.
Please tell us what you think.

Old and New

Ok guys I know its been a while but I've got some info for yall.
1. I got the remote reset working on the NES I modded and put a video about on the blog.
2. I have a NES Satellite right now and am looking into possible uses in modding
3. The OUYA a new game system coming out made to run Android games.
The reason? They say "The console market is pushing developers away. We’ve seen a brain drain: some of the best, most creative gamemakers are focused on mobile and social games because those platforms are more developer-friendly. And the ones who remain focused on console games can’t be as creative as they’d like."

"Developers can offer a free demo with a full-game upgrade, in-game items or powers, or ask you to subscribe."

"OUYA is a new game console for the TV, powered by Android.
We've packed this little box full of power. Developers will have access to OUYA's open design so they can produce their games for the living room, taking advantage of everything the TV has to offer.
"Best of all, OUYA's world-class controller, console, and interface come in one beautiful, inexpensive package. All the games on it will be free, at least to try."
Development?
"Anyone can make a game: every OUYA console is a dev kit. No need to purchase a license or an expensive SDK. It's built on Android, so developers already know how it works. "
Controlers?
"We are designing the controller to be a love letter to console gaming. It will have everything you've learned to love: fast buttons, triggers, laser-precise analog sticks, a D-Pad – and it will have a touchpad for any games making the trek from mobile or tablet to the TV. It'll be just the right weight. We are working with select developers to play-test the controller through development.  We call it 'the Stradivarius of controllers,' and we hope developers will be inspired to take gameplay to a new level with it."
Hacking?
"Have at it: It's easy to root (and rooting won't void your warranty). Everything opens with standard screws. Hardware hackers can create their own peripherals, and connect via USB or Bluetooth. You want our hardware design? Let us know. We might just give it to you. Surprise us!"
Here is the kickstarter page please order some now http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console#
I'll try to acquire one of these before launch but on a scale of no job to broke budget right now I'm not sure.

Diablo 3: Making Changes

Hey guys, I know a few people have been disappointing since patch 1.0.3 but I got some good news here. Bashiok said We recognize that the item hunt is just not enough for a long-term sustainable end-game. There are still tons of people playing every day and week, and playing a lot, but eventually they're going to run out of stuff to do (if they haven't already). Killing enemies and finding items is a lot of fun, and we think we have a lot of the systems surrounding that right, or at least on the right path with a few corrections and tweaks. But honestly Diablo III is not World of Warcraft. We aren't going to be able to pump out tons of new systems and content every couple months. There needs to be something else that keeps people engaged, and we know it's not there right now.

We're working toward 1.0.4, which we're really trying to pack with as many fixes and changes we can to help you guys out (and we'll have a bunch of articles posted with all the details as we get closer), and we're of course working on 1.1 with PvP arenas. I think both those patches will do a lot to give people things to do, and get them excited about playing, but they're not going to be a real end-game solution, at least not what we would expect out of a proper end-game. We have some ideas for progression systems, but honestly it's a huge feature if we want to try to do it right, and not something we could envision being possible until well after 1.1 which it itself still a ways out.

So maybe we will be gettin some good patches. I'll try to keep up with new info.

Smart Glass Coverage?

Hey guys I'm sure you have all heard of Microsoft SmartGlass by now. The New app coming out for Apple and Android that lets your "smart" device be used as a remote/give extra info/extra controller it is quite ingenious. But I'm wondering how far the reach will extend. Will it be on "secondary" android devices like the Nook Tablet or will it stick to the primary devices. Will developers take the time to program extra controlls for it or will they let it show lore and such. Will it be something you always want to use or will it flop on its face.Only time can tell. Also if you noticed they called it the year of the Xbox(360) which assured no new consoles would be released any time soon. Yet the Next Generation still looms right over our heads. We know its there and we know it will come down the question is when. I do believe though that the next Xbox will come(be announced) within the next year and that if this lawsuit holds out they may announce even earlier than expected trying to keep the Xbox gaming alive but that's just me. Ill be watchin E3 today and try and give more info and this is Death signing off.
